It's 2025!

Hey there!
Its... 2025 (somehow)! Happy new year! We revolved around the sun again :P
Even though logistically 2025 isn't looking... great, I'm trying to look at it with level of optimism. Here's a few of the facts I'm using to make this year seem a bit better:
- 2025 is expected to be the year of quantum computing breakthroughs
- In the past decade, the average lifespan of people with cystic fibrosis has increased from around 26 years to 50 years
- The Cure will likely tour this year with their new album (which sounds amazing, btw)
- The survival rate of pneumonia has increased somewhat drastically in the past decade
- Scientists are working on a medication that can prevent/reverse the damage caused by certain types of dementia
- The global literacy rate has increased to about 85%, making it the highest amount recorded in human history
- CRISPER has shown the ability to remove HIV from infected cells
- You exist! Do you understand just how crazy and paradoxal and fascinating that is?
- A new class of antibiotic has shown potential to work on antibiotic-resistant infections
- New genuine scientific research show that the human mind may be able to traverse UNIVERSES
- There is SO MUCH MORE
So while this year (rightfully) seems... terrifying, I believe that maybe, things will be okay. We by all standards are living in an unusually good time in human history, -which of course is terrifying in it's own right- so let's savor it. Did you know that it's proven that, in the morning, just saying a few positive affirmations can make the entire day better? I believe that also kinda extends to the year as a whole as well. So... I believe this year, amazing and wonderful things will happen, even if they are mixed in with bad things. We're gonna get through it, cheesy as it sounds.
Have an absolutley metal new year, fren
:)
Random things I remember from 2024

What's good, fren?
So... 2024 is almost over. And it was QUITE a year, at least for me personally. Here's a list of the random shet that I remember from my personal 2024.
1. We had a severe winter storm in my area and my power was knocked out for days. The emergency backup generator I have access to only works during the daytime, which would be fine if it weren't for the fact I own a lizard who cannot warm himself. So, I had to stay awake every night and keep him warm with my body heat until 6:00 AM, when the generator popped back on. It was... not fun
2. I somehow went from a pop-enjoying 'clean girl' to a metalhead who also looks like a metalhead (How this happened I am seriously unsure)
3. I got sick a LOT. I think my immune system just gave out, because during this year I got a horrific stomach flu, strep throat, about ten thousand colds, COVID, and pneumonia. I never used to get sick, but here we are I guess
4. My phone smashed for NO REASON WHATSOEVER. I literally picked it up, set it (in a case btw) onto my pillow, and BAM - it just broke
5. I have acquired a color printer
6. I FINALLY was able to get the proper treatment for my learning disability! (This fully altered my life and I couldn't be more grateful)
7. My collection of those little resin ducks has now surpassed 400; I have an army of them at my disposal at all times
8. The first food I ate in 2024 was white cheddar cheetos, and the last were table grapes
9. The first song I listened to in 2024 year was Lovin' On Me (by Jack Harlow) and the last was The Passenger (by Souxie and the Banshees)
10. I worked as a counselor at an overnight summer camp for kids and actually had an amazing time, despite my anxiety
11. I had a weird reaction to a medication which caused me to entirely redesign my living space?? (It does look really good now though)
12. I performed in two different plays (5 total performences)
13. I purchased a drum kit and have actually gotten fairly good at playing it
14. I went to Puerto Rico! I've never been anywhere near that far from home before, and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had
15. I learned how to code and started up a neocities website...
Anyways, what happened in your new year? I hope you had a great 2024, and I'll see you again in '25 :)
Metal elitism is so stupid
Posted on 12.30.2024 at 11:28 PM
Hello fren
Just wanted to yap about why metal elitism is one of the dumbest things imaginable, because it absolutely PLAGUES the (otherwise wonderful) metal community and has been annoying me for as long as I've been a metalhead.
Just think for a second: if two people with fairly similar dispositions both happen to enjoy the sounds of people stepping on LEGOS whilst abusing a drum kit, wouldn't it make sense that there'd be some at least sort of affinity regarding their shared, unconventional interest? Well unfortunatley, the answer to that would be no.
"But why?!?" You may be asking (you were most certainley NOT asking that but I'm going to pretend that you were). And the answer would be that one of the people thinks that the other's music taste is "poser" or "not metal enough" simply because the vocalist didn't step on LEGOS for the ENTIRETY of the song, and/or because more than 11.8 people have ever heard that one specific mp3 file. That, folks, is metal elitism.
Look: I understand that in reality, it is much more complex than the aformentioned example. However, I don't have time to write a 26 page essay on the topic of affinity/hierarchical (is that a word??) structures within communities. But basically, that's all there is to it.
Moral of the story, can we tinnitus-havers all just atleast somewhat respect our other tinnitus-having metalheads?? I promise, it really is not that difficult. (Unless you happen to be a teenager, then it is in fact quite difficult. You can still definitley do it tho)
(Also the notion that 'oh, there's no affinity/community in larger fanbases!!' is 180% false; have you ever been to a KoRn concert??)
See u later, fren
